Well Interference

Understanding how pad wells connect with each other in an unconventional field development is critical. Surface pressures will give some indication but Ziebel’s Z-system has clearly shown that interaction can be significantly more complex with differing impacts along the wellbore.

By adding on additional days sensing to a Ziebel flow evaluation program, nearby wells can be toggled on and off to determine where and how wells interfere with each other.

The DAS images show how the production in the sensing well changes when a nearby well is shut-in. The change in flow is not uniform along the wellbore. In some cases shutting in a nearby well increases production from some stages and reduces it from other stages.

As an add-on to Ziebel’s flow allocation service, well interference testing can help operators optimize their well spacing.
